The
unspoilt village of Bishop Wilton nestles at the foot
of Garrowby
Hill on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds.
In Saxon times it was a country retreat of the bishops
of York.
The
Saxons began the lovely church which has a fine Norman
Chancel Arch and Doorway. The remarkable flooring of black
and white marble
is copied from a floor in the Vatican.
Bishop
Wilton is a good centre for walking, within easy reach of
the
City of york or the beauty of the East Coast.
